Trinamool Congress

The All India Trinamool Congress was formed in West Bengal in 1997. This was formed in the split in the West Bengal unit of the Indian National Congress. Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Congress Party, was leading the party to form the Trinamool Congress. The word ‘Trinamul’ means ‘the people at the lowest level’. The first name given to the Trinamool Congress was West Bengal. Later, it was renamed as India’s Trinamool Congress.
Since the late 1970s, Congress has been consistently anti-Congress and Left-wing governments. After the 1996 parliamentary election, the Congress has been weakened nationally. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gained strength. BJP The Congress was willing to soften the Left with anti-Tamil interests. By this approach of the Congress, there was divisiveness among the Congressmen of West Bengal. Two sects were there. They were a section of the Congress’s all-India political line and a section of the left wing that only made sense of the political situation prevailing in the state. The second section did not show strong opposition to the BJP. The second division was led by Mamata Banerjee, a prominent youth Congress leader from West Bengal. This factionalism moved into the split of the state Congress. In 1997, a new party, Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, was formed. The formation of this party was to represent minorities and ordinary people.

In the election

In the 1998 Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool Congress did not agree with the BJP but had made an electoral understanding. In 1999, the alliance with the BJP faced elections.

It grew to become the main opposition party in West Bengal. The party has been able to demonstrate its presence in the state election in 2001. The main contest was in the election between the Left Front leader led by the Communist Party and the Trinamool Congress-led coalition. Since 2003, the Indian National Congress has emerged as a major opposition party in the state politics, particularly in panchayat elections. The Trinamul Congress has been weakening. The Trinamool Congress was not widely popularized outside West Bengal.

In 2004 Parliamentary Elections, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sangma, a split-stricken party and a Trinamool Congress, worked as a Nationalist Trinamool Congress party. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress has 19 catches. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Bengal got elected to 182 seats. Mamata Banerjee became Chief Minister of West Bengal. Trinamool Congress is working to become a national party today. The party has seven legislators in Manipur today. There is 1 member in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
